REVIEWS AND ROAD TESTS

Pretentious

The following lines are aimed at achieving two objectives: first, to provide information for the very, very small minority of buyers who can truly afford a Rolls Royce, and second, to make the rest of us green with envy because we can’t possibly afford anything approaching this English manor on wheels. Two models are available for our driving pleasure this year: the Silver Seraph sedan and the Corniche convertible. You can’t buy an automobile for the equivalent of the gross domestic product of a Third World country and expect nothing less than indescribably superb comfort. Besides Connolly leather that make seats pillowy soft and comfortable, the huge passenger compartment offers the ultimate in commodities: automatic deodorizing for cigar smokers, mirrors, a mini-bar, a document holder, a writing table, etc. With the introduction of the Silver Seraph, the mission is clear: a Rolls Royce is designed to make your every automotive dream come true. After years of hard work, this is the ultimate reward. No other manufacturer can match such size with such power. But most impressive of all: the 2.5 tons of this mastodon have no negative effect on its handling ease. And when it comes to ride, this is the quietest vehicle in the entire industry.

You know you’re in a whole other universe when your car’s price tag reads like a telephone number!

PROS
Unique social status
Perfect finish
Excellent weight/power ratio

CONS
Huge size
Staggering fuel consumption
Galactic cost
